Welcome to the fall 2022 session of CSC 213: Operating Systems and Parallel Algorithms. In this course, we will learn what is happening a level of abstraction below your programs when you run them on a modern computer. We will learn how the OS and runtime libraries providing useful services to programs, how the OS manages scarce resources like CPU time and memory, how access to storage and network devices is controlled, and the role that hardware plays in each of these concerns.

Leah Perlmutter (she/her) I am a new professor at Grinnell, and am excited to be teaching an operating systems class for my first time! I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and am happy to move back to the Midwest to work at Grinnell. For the past 11 years, I have I lived in Seattle, Washington, where I enjoyed practicing aerial circus arts, worked in the software industry, and earned my PhD from the University of Washington. My PhD dissertation is about students building a sense of belonging in college computer science, and it is deeply important to me to build a classroom that is welcoming to all. I have 14 year old tortoiseshell cat named Mocha. I'm eager to get your feedback on my teaching in order to be the best instructor I can be! |

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have- about this class or about any of my majors more generally- through teams or email, and I will get back to you as soon as I can! Since I did not share a fun fact about myself in class, here is mine: I lived in Norway, but I do not like hiking. |
